"The wonder is that we can see these trees and not wonder more." Ralph Waldo Emerson
Urban trees provide cities a number of benefits while withstanding the pressures of constantly changing urban environments. Urban trees can improve air quality, increase social well being, prevent soil erosion, reduce storm water runoff and provide habitat for wildlife. Join a pedaling tour of some of Calgary's unique inner city trees and learn some of their stories from local ISA certified arborist and tree enthusiast Mike Alkema. This ride will have 8-10 stops along an approx. 10 km route. We will ride at a leisurely pace, there are two short hills but the group will stay together. There will be an opportunity to win a copy of Heritage Trees of Alberta, so buff on your tree trivia!
We start at the Calgary Court House (530 7 Ave S.W.) at 6 p.m. and will end at Tomkins Park ( 17 Ave S.W. and 8 St S.W.) just before 8 p.m. Bring some change for frozen yogurt at Tutti Frutti.
