Join us for our first ever Winter Cycling Fair on October 12th from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in MacEwan Hall at the University of Calgary. The event is being put on by the University of Calgary’s Office of Sustainability and its student volunteers.

The fair is an ideal showcase for sustainability in action as it represents the intersection of sustainability: nature, economy, society and wellbeing. Cycling and related alternative transportation issues deal with the environmental impacts of our daily commuting choices and; shed light on social issues related to bicycle affordability and accessibility. Being able to choose alternative transportation methods in the winter can have a direct link to personal health and wellness, both physically and mentally.

A staff transportation survey conducted in 2015 by the university’s Office of Sustainability, identified winter as the largest barrier for year round cycling. The concerns people show when discussing winter cycling is warmth and appropriate equipment. This fair will provide vendors and local bike culture representatives the opportunity to educate and promote, not sell, their winter cycling equipment and information. This event aims to help encourage winter cycling by connecting Calgarians and the university community to local bike shops, and Calgary bike culture and the people behind Calgary’s many cycling initiatives and resources representatives.

This event is free and open to the public.
